I’m taking the 1 Million Pledge! Goodbye coffee, hello Levi’s new hairdo!
In September 2025, our family had the pleasure of opening our home to two beautiful souls from Uganda. Along with many other things, we had the joy of sharing countless stories over the dinner table and discussing our strikingly contrasting living conditions.
One story in particular affected me deeply…
Since having a child with a disability, I wholeheartedly understand the complexities that surround caring for one. Knowing this led me to ask the question… “In Uganda, what does a mother do with a child like our beautiful Levi?” The answer was heartbreaking. Our friend told us that, devastatingly, those precious children are almost always left on the side of the road to fend for themselves…
Hearing those words, I had to catch myself as I imagined all the children—and even my own son—stranded and alone with nothing and no one. I also thought of the mum whose heart would be shattered for her child, knowing that she can’t give them everything they need. I thought, “How can this just be an ‘it is what it is’ situation?”
Of course, this thought also led me to a place of sheer gratitude for the easy access to the world-class medicine we have here in Australia. However, it also put a spotlight on a need that so desperately needs to be met, and that spotlight, we felt, is just too bright to ignore.
Friends, please will you help Levi and me as we launch a joint fundraiser with a goal to raise $30,000 to support vulnerable mums and babies living in poverty.
For those who know me, you’ll know that my absolute first and forever love will always be coffee… Since discovering it, I’ve never gone a single day without it, and every time I’ve tried, I have seriously failed. But with your support, and that spotlight at the front of my mind, this time I won’t. I’m committing to zero caffeine for 31 days in the month of October.
Along with that, our little man—who we know would love nothing more than to make a difference in the lives of so many vulnerable mums and babies—would also appreciate your support as he says goodbye to his lush blonde hair and hello to his dad’s cut on October 1st. The “mini-Gaz” is about to get even more Gaz. I have to be honest: a part of me was really unsettled by the idea of Levi having his hair shaved, but when perspective strikes, it strikes hard… Hair comes back… lives don’t.
This is why I’m taking the 1 Million Pledge.
The 1 Million Pledge, powered by The Active Faith Foundation, is uniting people around the world to fund life‑saving programs for mums and babies. Through our partnership with Compassion Australia, support goes directly to frontline care, giving families the chance to survive and thrive through a baby’s most critical first year.
By joining, I’ve become “one in a million,” standing with others who believe every mother and child deserves a future.
